Common Core Field Tests in Progress

Both Smarter Balanced and PARCC, the two consortia developing Common Core-aligned assessment systems to be available to state K-12 systems as an alternative for their federal accountability testing requirements (grades 3 through 8 and high school), are doing massive field testing of their assessments this spring, with a goal of identifying and addressing any glitches or problems in the on-the-ground testing processes across their respective states. So far–and Smarter Balanced is around 2.5 million tests administered and counting–things have been going pretty well; for a brief overview see this recent Education Week article.
