SREB College and Career Readiness Courses

As part of the Core to College project here in Washington we’re beginning to explore the development of “transition courses” high school seniors. These courses, in math and English, would be collaboratively designed by high school teachers and higher education faculty, and would offer students deemed not-yet college-ready on the 11th grade Smarter Balanced assessment an opportunity to get college-ready by the end of their senior year and avoid pre-college work (and perhaps additional placement testing) when they enter college in Washington.

One good national model for this work is from a grant project led by the Southern Regional Educational Board; more details about the courses are available on their web site, with the full courses available for download now. The courses will also be available through iTune beginning some time in spring 2014.
